Folksonomies & Tagging

I had never used Del.icio.us before until this online program started and I am finding it extremely useful!
It’s an organised way of setting up your favourite tags into folders and sharing them with my friends or colleagues that belong to my Del.icio.us network.
This program would be beneficial for libraries, especially when people move departments it would help to use their colleague’s useful websites.
I think Del.icio.us would be a valuable tool for research as students could discover new websites by browsing other students or even teachers tags.

RSS Feeds

I really liked how easy it is to subscribe to an RSS
feed and how quickly you can be updated on the all
the latest information that interests you.
The sites I picked were the Powerhouse Museum, Our Brisbane, SBS World News, Slq blogs and chocolate-cioccolata the home of chocolate.

Social Networks

I created a Facebook account just before my high school reunion. I found it really easy to find all of my old school friends before the event.
Now I can post updates without having to email everyone individually.

Wikis

I think the concept of creating collaborative pieces of information and knowledge sharing which can be updated by anyone is great!
I enjoyed reading the Discussion Forum of the slq library 2.0 as not only did it give me more information on how to use wikis, it was good to see the Licence 2 Test Drive program has encouraged a lot of people that would not normally edit or add comments to wikis are havng a go... including me!

Chocolate Egg - Flickr

I was not expecting 972,750 photos of chocolate on Flickr! I really enjoyed exploring the site - all the photos were amazing and I found it very difficult to pick a favourite image. However I was impressed by this image of a giant Easter egg made by Chef Jacquy!
Overall, I think Flickr is very addictive!!

Starting out...

All of my friends have a blog, except for me! I have had very limited experience when it comes to blogging so when this online program was introduced – I thought it was a great opportunity to keep up with everyone else!
So far I have discovered my work colleague’s blogs and have really enjoyed reading their interesting stories.
I think blogs within the library would be beneficial to promote awareness of other departments and it’s a great way to market the library.
